“We Don’t Have Room for That”: The Most Common Furniture Myth I Hear
Share
If I Had a Dollar for Every Time I Heard This…
One of the most common things I hear from customers is:
“We absolutely love it… but we don’t have room.”
And honestly? I get it.
When most people hear “bedroom furniture,” they picture something huge. They imagine needing a giant primary bedroom, a dedicated playroom, or a house straight out of HGTV.
But that’s almost never the case. After helping couples for more than 17 years, I’ve learned that most people aren’t actually limited by space. They’re limited by what they think these products look like or how much room they believe they’ll take up.
The truth is, there are so many more options than most people realize.
“We Live in an Apartment”
This is probably the number one thing people tell me. And ironically, some of my favorite recommendations were made for exactly that reason.

Products like the Wedge or the Jaz Motion don’t need their own room or a permanent setup. They’re compact, easy to tuck away, and can make a huge difference in comfort without taking over your bedroom.
One of my favorite reactions is when someone says:
“Wait… that’s it?”
They expected something much bigger. Sometimes it’s the smallest changes that make the biggest difference.
“We Don’t Want Something That Looks Obvious”
Honestly? Neither do most of my customers. A lot of people assume positioning and support products have to look medical or stand out the second someone walks into the room. Thankfully, that’s not true anymore.

The Fascinator is a perfect example. It looks like a beautiful, cozy throw that you can leave on your bed, your couch, or even pack for a weekend getaway.
Many positioning pieces can be stored in a closet, slid under the bed, or tucked neatly into your space until you’re ready to use them. The best products don’t demand attention. They simply make life a little more comfortable.
“We Don’t Have Room for Large Furniture”
This is where people are usually surprised. Not every furniture piece is meant to stay in the bedroom.
The Flip Ramp is one of my favorites because it can work as an ottoman, a bench, positioning support, or functional furniture depending on what you need.

The Wave is another great example. It blends beautifully into your home while offering so much more than meets the eye.
One thing I hear all the time is that people expect to store these pieces away. Instead, they end up leaving them out because they actually look great in their space. When one piece can do multiple jobs, finding room for it suddenly feels a whole lot easier.
“We Only Want to Buy One Thing”
Honestly? That’s usually what I recommend. One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need a whole collection to improve comfort or make date night feel more exciting. You really don’t. I’d much rather see someone buy one versatile piece they’ll use all the time than a closet full of products that never leave the box.
If you’re not sure where to start, I usually recommend:
- A Wedge
- A Jaz Motion
- A Fascinator
- A convertible furniture piece
- A support accessory that solves one specific comfort challenge
Start with one. See how it fits your lifestyle. If you decide you want more later, you can always build from there.
The Question Usually Isn’t About Space
After having this conversation hundreds of times, I’ve realized something. “We don’t have room.” Usually isn’t really about the room. It’s about wondering:
Will we actually use it?
Will it make enough of a difference?
Is it worth the space?
Those are all completely fair questions.
I always encourage people to think less about how much space something takes up and more about what it adds to their everyday life. The right piece doesn’t create clutter. It creates comfort. It creates confidence. And sometimes, it creates opportunities to reconnect that busy life has pushed aside.
Funny enough, the products people hesitate over the longest often become the ones they tell me they can’t imagine living without.
Quick Tips to Try
- Start with products that serve more than one purpose.
- Look for pieces that double as furniture or décor.
- Think about where you’ll store it, not just where you’ll use it.
- Solve one comfort challenge at a time.
- Remember that the best products are usually the ones you reach for the most.
If you’ve ever caught yourself saying, “We don’t have room for that,” I hope this gives you a different perspective. Sometimes the biggest obstacle isn’t square footage. It’s simply realizing what’s possible.
